This is a true story.
You can’t guess it by the way I look*(see footnote) but during the dark times that preceded the 5min era of my life I used to be quite a handyman.

It all started when I borrowed some tools from a friend to hang some things on walls and build DIY shelves. The wood I bought for the shelves turned out to be much too long, so I borrowed a circular saw while I was at it. I have never used a power saw before, and there was no one there to warn me.
Power tools are a lot like women – at first you’re afraid and confused, sometimes you’re afraid that you might lose a finger, but still, you know deep inside that you want it.

So I overcame my fears and started chopping wood like there’s no tomorrow. And what do you know, 2 months later I find myself managing a small renovation project at a very exclusive private college for girls. I admit that the fact that my sister was the assistant manager at the time did have a thing or two with me getting the job. Alas, my lack of formal education on these topics continued to bother me, and improvising can only take you so far – I felt like an impostor.

Now, years after,The Home Depot has produced some great DIY videos to help you out, from how to replace a ceiling fan to the basics of interior painting.

Nothing like a weekend with a power saw makes you feel more alive, right?

Watch more DIY videos on 5min.com

Some say it’s the constant fear of losing a limb keeps you really edgy, but it’s all about the fresh smell of sawdust, the sensation of making something new.

*Well, you don’t know how I look because someone probably got his camera eaten by his dog, because the only excuse I can think of for not uploading pictures that was taken more than a month ago, but I leave it to your imagination.
And that would be very suspicious, considering the fact that that special someone owns a cat**.

** Very ugly cat, I admit. But not enough to be mistaken as a dog.
