Last time I checked, when people talked about colors, it was related to fashion. Some years later, I see that color is used in therapies that are supposed to balance your energy, and even children are labeled with colors .

Indigo Children is a concept that was developed by Nancy Anne Tappe, and that states that Indigo children are more evolved and therefore have paranormal powers, such as telepathy. While some people strongly believe that Indigo children (named after the color of their aura) should be treated in a special way in order to allow them to develop their abilities, others think that there is no evidence that supports this theory and that the characteristics exposed by Indigo children are very similar to the ones displayed by children with ADHD or other brain disorders. Sometimes parents tend to use the “nicer label”, when it comes to their children, which is good, but it needs to be done to a certain extent, as the misuse of a label may have harmful consequences on your child.

Watch more DIY videos on 5min.com

Personally, I wasn’t a specially sensitive child (I was more interested in the Big Bang theory than the existence of angels ) and when it came to facts, I was eager to hear a scientific explanation. After all, my dad is a very skeptical man and I was a skeptical kid myself. This doesn’t mean that I believe that what you can’t prove doesn’t exist, or that some kids aren’t in fact different. This only means that if my child starts telling me about his past life I’ll have to do a lot of research before I decide to dismiss the British education I’m all for and send them to an Indigo school.

I didn’t enjoy any outdoors activity, or anything that involved running or sweating. Yes, I was that creepy little girl, with braided hair, that looked a lot like Wednesday Addams, that had a collection of porcelain dolls, and that was fascinated by anything that had to do with the occult.

So yes, if there’s any activity that I was willing to participate in, was Halloween. I just loved Halloween: you just got candies for looking spooky, how much better can something get?

Now, my parents are far away from Morticia and Gomez, so they would only let me go candy hunting if I was with an adult. Since I didn’t like kids anyways, it never seemed like a bad deal to me…Now, there are more things to worry about, so if you’re a concerned parent and want to keep your kids safe on Halloween without embarrassing them, here are some useful tips.

Summer’s almost over
And so the feeling grows.

Yes, summer vacation, short and sweet if you’re a kid, long and expensive if you’re a parent, is just about over.

While the first day of school has never been a favorite of mine, I fondly remember the preparations that preceded it each year. Besides the fact that everyone in my family suffers from an acute office supplies addiction (markers and post-its and pens! oh my!) there’s something optimistic about the whole ritual. Every year is a new leaf, a second chance, a do-over. This year you’ll take nice, neat notes, keep your books in order and finish all of your homework before watching TV.

But even if you won’t, you can still enjoy making some pretty new book covers. As parents, this is a chance to spend some quality time with your children. A few stamps, stickers, stencils and some glitter can turn the book wrapping chore into a fun arts and crafts afternoon.

This helpful ON Networks video shows you how to make DIY Back-to-School supplies for less:

When we found out that my sister was expecting a baby, our first concern was him: our little prince, Mr V. How would he feel about it? Even when she had married and moved from my parents house a while ago, she was the still dog’s mother and treated him like her baby. And he’s my dad’s best ally: guys aren’t allowed. Bark and period.

Then we began to wonder: how much do dogs sense? Are they able to detect hormonal and body changes? How do they react? Is there a way to make this process simple?

The Pregnancy Show gave us the answer: dogs do know that you’re pregnant, even before you do. And how to deal with it will depend on your pet. Some pets will want to protect you and your little one, but others, like Mr. V, will require some extra attention and special care.

Watch more DIY videos on 5min.com

Having this in mind, you’ll be able to deal with your pet in an better way and help him get used to the idea that he won’t be the only baby anymore.

We may have turned out with better manners, or at least, cheekier humor.
While 5min’s R&D team boasts an impressive lineup of daddies who are as awesome and skilled at kid-rearing as much as they are in code, here in the content team we’re still contemplating the big genetic jump. Which is not to say we’re not learning and preparing – in fact, thanks to DadLabs, we think we’re definitely on the right path to mastering some parental mojo, earning parenting points with each new episode. From scoring schwag with Gear Daddy to teaching us the importance of rocking out as a family to practical parenting tips for novice daddies and veteran dads alike, DadLabs happen to be the most dadalicious dudes on the web.

With lively lounge discussions on fatherhood hot topics, hands-on product reviews and interviews with parenting pros, DadLabs are like the Robin Hoods of paternity – taking it back and bringing it home. Alongside weekly discussions on the many potential paternity pitfalls out there and how to avoid them, DadLabs also demonstrate awe-inspiring thriftiness. For example, check out this video tutorial on how to make your own baby food:

Watch more DIY videos on 5min.com

This homemade blended turkey delight may just be more nutritious (and delicious) than what we usually lunch on in the office – just some food for thought. PBJ, anyone?

No matter how much you’ve studied, there’s no degree that will prepare you on how to be a mom. That’s what I learned when my niece was born: in a week I was an expert on baby diet, baby sleep and how to change diapers in the most unbelievable places.

But babies have a mind of their own, and although all our efforts on keeping a peaceful and quiet environment, our little girl switched from a Peter Rabbit character to a possessed Linda Blair in one second: tantrums

These tantrums didn’t seem to get any better, and reached a peak when she grabbed my sister’s keys and threw them away. The result? Keys couldn’t be found anywhere and we had to find our way into the house by smashing a window with a brick. In one second, our little house on the prairie turned into a street gang target.

But throwing bricks at windows is not the best way to control your child’s tantrum. If you really want tantrums to be over, you need to ignore her/him until the tantrum is gone. Tantrums only last while they have an audience.

If you have this problem with your child, check what Kimberley Blaine from GoToMom has to say about it. It will be more effective than calling father Merrin or throwing bricks.

Watch more DIY videos on 5min.com
