Working at a sushi bar had some obvious perks, like being able to have sushi almost every day. Others included getting to know all about sake, trying every crazy dish on the menu and making vegetable flowers with the sushi men. Sadly though, the job also had it’s downsides, like having sushi almost every day. After about 6 months most people cannot even stand the smell of soy, not to mention the sight of rice and raw fish.

The funniest side of the job was seeing people who can’t use chopsticks, especially on a first date. In this video from Better.TV you’ll learn all the sushi dos and don’ts, which could come in handy with sushi being the most popular location for a first date nowadays.

Watch more DIY videos on 5min.com

Here are a few more tips:

You can easily make beginners chopsticks and practice at home. You’ll need a pair of chopsticks and a straw. Insert the end part of each chopstick into the straw. It should look as though the straw is connecting the chopsticks into one lone stick. Now simply fold the straw in the middle, where the sticks meet, and start practicing.

Try to wear dark colored cloths, like black and navy, and always avoid white since soy souce tends to splatter and stain.

If you still haven’t mastered the chopsticks, simply order hand rolls or nigiri which you’re meant to eat with your hands.

If worse comes to worst remember that it is always better to eat sushi with your hands than to ask for cutlery.

The answer is an astounding yes – especially the handy monkeys you’ll find in MonkeySee’s 5min Studios. These monkeys can help you with your relationships, dating, prep you to ace your SATs, teach you magic tricks, and plenty more. But more importantly, these monkeys can teach you how to milk a cow! A skill that must be performed at least once in a lifetime, you’ll surely agree:

Watch more DIY videos on 5min.com

Now the thing about cows is, they’re just awesome. They have gorgeous big eyes, come in 920 breeds and have an array of different colors such as black, white, tans, greys, browns, reds and many more.
If you want more reason than that to love a cow, have a look at the statistics. A cow – if allowed by a human to do so – can live up to 25 years, which means it’s old enough to enjoy life, but not old enough to get bored of it! Although sadly, dairy cows aren’t typically kept much past 5 years. A cow will produce 10 gallons of milk a day – that’s roughly 5 gallons of ice cream. Over a life span of 5 years, that’s 25 gallons of ice cream per cow! That means that one cow could effectively make 134 700ml tubs of Ben and Jerry’s in its life time. Now, just imagine how many cows are out there!

If you don’t have a sweet tooth and this is not enough of a reason for you to love a cow, get this: unlike many mammals, a cow sees the world in color, so it can always compliment you on your fashion sense or tell you where you went wrong.

If you’re still not loving cows after all this, then I think all cows should be moved to India where they’d have their own nursing homes and would be looked after by people who know how to appreciate them.

A profile article about a women who biked her way across America brought into my childhood, along with a relentless passion for traveling, the concept of packing light. That impressive lady explained how crucial it was for her success to have as little as possible to carry on her back. Every milligram mattered, so much so, that she even carved out the inside of her tooth brush.

Back then I was far too young to embark on my own adventure, but every trip I took, every class tour or family vacation turned into an opportunity to practice my packing skills. First I’d choose the smallest possible bag I could find, fill it with everything I needed and then remove about a third of the contents. Of course, what marks a truly gifted light packer is not the size of his bag but the fact that it contains everything he might need in the smallest possible pack. It is in fact, if you like, an exercise in minimalism, similar to writing a Haiku.

The funny thing is that this is it quite an addictive habit. After living happily on the road for months with just a small backpack you begin to wonder why it is that you need all of the stuff that is constantly cluttering your house. That is why my favorite part of the famous environmental slogan is “Reduce”,and there’s no better time than a financial crisis to reconsider the amounts we consume as individuals and as a society.

In this funny and informative video Toshio from IdealBite learns there are some major Eco-friendly advantages to losing his job:

Watch more DIY videos on 5min.com

I’ve never been a very optimistic person, maybe because I watch too many PETA videos and love reading Proust and Virginia Woolf. Now, that doesn’t mean that I’m not a happy person, as it’s known that the happier you are, the longer you live. But, what do you need to do in order to be happier?

Well, let’s take a look at what E. Jean Carroll from Elle has to say about it:

1)Forget about yourself

2)Don’t eat like a pig

3)Give money to the poor

4)Stand up for the helpless

5)Smile

Watch more DIY videos on 5min.com

And…another 5 points that lead to the conclusion that you need to drop your own list. So, like Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music, make a list of your favorite things. Because as E. Jean says, “only you know what makes you happy”.
