Last time I checked, when people talked about colors, it was related to fashion. Some years later, I see that color is used in therapies that are supposed to balance your energy, and even children are labeled with colors .

Indigo Children is a concept that was developed by Nancy Anne Tappe, and that states that Indigo children are more evolved and therefore have paranormal powers, such as telepathy. While some people strongly believe that Indigo children (named after the color of their aura) should be treated in a special way in order to allow them to develop their abilities, others think that there is no evidence that supports this theory and that the characteristics exposed by Indigo children are very similar to the ones displayed by children with ADHD or other brain disorders. Sometimes parents tend to use the “nicer label”, when it comes to their children, which is good, but it needs to be done to a certain extent, as the misuse of a label may have harmful consequences on your child.

Watch more DIY videos on 5min.com

Personally, I wasn’t a specially sensitive child (I was more interested in the Big Bang theory than the existence of angels ) and when it came to facts, I was eager to hear a scientific explanation. After all, my dad is a very skeptical man and I was a skeptical kid myself. This doesn’t mean that I believe that what you can’t prove doesn’t exist, or that some kids aren’t in fact different. This only means that if my child starts telling me about his past life I’ll have to do a lot of research before I decide to dismiss the British education I’m all for and send them to an Indigo school.

A lot has been said about the H1N1 Influenza, also known as “Swine Flu”. Initially, it was believed that it came from North American pigs. However, although it does contain flu viruses that come from pigs, it also has human and avian genes. So, what do we know about swine flu? Is it mild, or is it severe? How many countries have been affected by it? Is it still spreading?

Swine Flu was officially considered a Pandemic on June 2009, and the reason was the spread of the disease and not the intensity of the cases. Most of the cases have been reported as “mild”, and while the United States still leads the number of new cases, in the Southern Hemisphere the amount of new cases is beginning to decline.

So, how many people have been affected by the Swine Flu? In the US only, this flu has killed over 265 children, about 28 pregnant mothers and recently, 12 healthy teenagers. Unlike the Seasonal Flu, that affects mostly people over 65 years of age, the H1N1 Influenza has an increased risk on pregnant women, children, and people with previous medical conditions.

Considering these stats, a vaccination campaign will target pregnant women, health care givers and people from 6 months to 24 years of age. The vaccine, made by Sanofi Connaught labs, and Flumist , the nasal spray vaccine made by Medimmune, seem to be effective and safe. Doses will be available on limited quantities at the beginning, but the US Government purchased 250 million doses, giving the opportunity of vaccination to anyone that wants to get it.

If this immunization program fails, the death rate could hit 100,000 and not the usual 36,000 caused by the Seasonal Flu, targeting mostly children and young adults.

I have to shout this from the roof tops “I love Lola Berry”
why I don’t know! I am a fully cynical person who avoids all things cutesy, adorable and talkative (basically anything that reminds me of my girly self). I really should find her annoying, but I don’t! She knows way too much cool stuff! Really I have no idea how to describe her.
Her head seems to be full to bursting of all the things she knows and yes her excitable nature really draws me into the video instead of turning me away! Like did you know that there is a Pumpkin Pie fruit that takes 8 years to fruit, Lola did. There is also Jack fruit that taste just like bubble gum and can weigh up to 70kg which far outweighs the average pumpkin weight of 10kg so hey may be Lola has found a new fruit to make Halloween jack o’ lanterns.
I’m the kinda girl that loves little bits of information that may sound trivial to the sober listener but at parties gives you an audience of “Oooos”, “Ahhhs” and “That’s really cool how do you know this stuff?” So I’ve finally found my way into cool party captive audiences thanks to Lola, just cross your fingers she doesn’t run out of cool things to tell me as it’s always hard to go back to the person in the corner once you’ve had an audience hanging on your every word!

Watch more DIY videos on 5min.com

Unlike some people , my father is not a Doctor (He is a veterinarian actually, but that’s beside the point). However, I always dreamt to become a one, Gregory House style , the whole cane-chauvinism-misanthropy-pure coolness thingy . Alas, life takes you to weird and magical places like law school instead, and my dream was buried in the sands of memory.

TV360 is full of people who are living the dream, my dream, they are real doctors, white coats and all that jazz, but instead of walking around with a cane and emotionally abuse their co-workers and patients, they answer questions like “how to remove warts” or talks about the health benefits of drinking coffee in a well behaved and informative way. Now where’s the fun in that?

But then again, when you’re handling issues like bipolar disorder and depression perhaps you’ll prefer the good doctors from TV360 over Dr. House.

Annie Get Your Gun did not become a classic American musical just because of it’s catchy songs, prototypical love-hate romance or even the wicked Wild West costumes. No, it was the basic concept of being the best. Be the fastest, smartest, build the biggest yarn ball or smallest cell phone.

In this video from Everwell, Dr. Charlotte Grayson explains why is it that someone else can tickle you, but you can’t tickle yourself:

Watch more DIY videos on 5min.com

Basically, what brain scientists have studied and can tell us now is that the part of the brain which is responsible for preventing us from hours of self-tickled joy is the cerebellum as the part of the brain that prevents us from self-tickling. The cerebellum is a region located at the base of our brain, which monitors movements and sensations. Being quite brainy, the cerebellum can actually set apart expected sensations from unexpected sensations, effectively killing the element of surprise.

Ever encounter one of those medical questions you just never had the nerve to ask? If a decade ago, you had to utilize your periodic checkups at the doctor’s office to get all those questions out of your system, today, the web brings your doctor to you – or in this case, an entire team of doctors: Dr. Travis Stork (who you may recognize from the Parisian season of “The Bachelor”), Dr. Lisa Masterson, Dr. James Sears, and Dr. Andrew Ordon.

Navigating with grace and humor through even the most complex of medical answers and explanations, CBS’s The Doctors offers an impressive resource for anyone who wishes to find out more about the way our body and its organs functions, the many, many different diseases and conditions that we may be at risk of, and advancements in treatment of these ailments.

Having grown up with a doctor dad, I sometimes feel as though he spent much of my childhood preparing me for medical disasters – I was sent to attend babysitting safety courses, first aid and emergency care classes, and taught just about every possible life-saving skill, short of surgical procedures. Unfortunately, most of us were not so lucky, and most people’s childhood did not include practicing CPR on dummies or sterilizing and bandaging open wounds… Thankfully, The Doctors are here to save the day, by showing you how you could potentially save someone’s life next time you encounter an emergency situation:

While mysteriously radioactive venom did wonders for Peter’s high school years and gave the world the Spider-Man series (Stan Lee, you’re the man), the majority of us will probably never be lucky enough to get bitten by a radioactive spider (believe me, I have tried! The only result was having attended many, many science exhibitions) and know the great responsibility that comes with great superpowers.

In fact, most of us will typically let out a faint whimper of panic and then lay the smack down on a spider if we encounter one. But, in any case, just so you’re prepared for the attack of an eight-legged enemy, check out this video from TV360 on how to treat a spider bite:

“Your hands are your business card to the world.”

That was one of those mantra I repeatedly heard at a tender, young age, directed at almost every girl and woman within close proximity of my grandmother, who was the culprit behind these type of sayings. These priceless pearls of ladylike wisdom would ultimately stay stuck in my head for years. Not to say she wasn’t right – with the paranoia-driven beauty rituals I’ve deployed since my days in kindergarten, my hands have indeed managed to not only to be a source of pride, but also contributed some cold, hard cash to my nest egg, following some obscure hand modeling gigs for jewelry catalogs back in college. Yes, I am 100% not kidding.

Over the years, I’ve maintained a somewhat unhealthy relationship (bordering on addiction) with nail polish, and to this day remember to always carry hand creams in heavenly scents on my person (Confession: 5min’s content ladies happen to be Bath & Body Works junkies), because you never know when you’ll feel that itch to hydrate, rejuvenate and what not. Secretly, of course, I long for society to wise up and return to the glorious days where a lady never left the house without a dainty pair of gloves. If you think about it, it makes sense, as our hands are parts that are constantly exposed to the damages of the sun, chemicals, urban grime and an endless list of other foes who stand in the way of perfection.

Oh, yeah – and aging. That’s right, I know my hands and nails are shockingly stunning now, in my twenties, but I also know that in a couple of decades I may find myself longing to bring back the glove-toting revolution all on my own, with the inevitable appearance of wrinkles, sun spots, and evidence of natural progression (unless I discover I’m one of those immortal types, that is).

Which is why I was super-stoked to discover this video from The Doctors, where I learned about hand rejuvenation procedures available to those on a quest after the perfect pair of hands. In this segment, you can see how Radiesse, a calcium-based filler, is injected between the tendons on top of the hand. The filler adds volume to the area and lasts up to two years, leaving you with a plumper, healthier and younger looking hands.

Like many children all over the world I remember falling in love with “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” which became one of my all time favorite books. Long before Tim Burton and Johnny Depp forced their Freudian theories down our throats I used to read it over and over again visualizing all of Roald Dahl’s beautiful inventions: the chocolate river, hard candy boat and the great glass elevator.

As an adult, though, I found myself dreaming mostly of the Three-Course Dinner Chewing Gum. A candy that is a three course dinner all in itself: Tomato Soup, Roast Beef and Baked Potato, and Blueberry Pie and Ice Cream. Not just bad artificial flavor, but an actual meal were the soup is hot, potatoes crispy and the ice cream creamy and cold, I’d tell myself while looking yet again at an empty fridge, remembering that I forgot to get groceries.

Busy lives and full schedules mean that most of us don’t have the time to prepare three course meals, or even the energy to fantasize about them during the week. While I Hope most people don’t often find themselves with nothing but ginger ale and instant soup, many could use some help figuring out how to shop for healthy and easy to prepare meals.

Dietitian Carolyn O’Neil will show you how to do just that – fit a healthy diet to the busiest schedule!
