The Perfect Fire

There’s nothing better than a family weekend. It has been a while since I got over the rebel phase, so between clubbing or being home with my parents, I go with the second one. Tea, cookies, conversation, old albums, the kids running around. And the fireplace, of course.
I would say that after the table, the fireplace is maybe the most important family space in a house. Specially during the chilly season’s holiday. And like the table, it requires some special decoration during this month, as it will be a very important place for all the gatherings. Kim Myles gives us two great tips on how to decorate your fireplace:
-Makeover the Mantle with Modern Color Combos: Basically, use classic ornaments but in not so traditional colors, creating a Christmas-with-a-twist look.
-Light Up Your Life: So, if the fireplace is not being used, you can still use some light in there, and place some candles. You can add some stones that resemble snow and that will bring a modern, neat look into your classic fireplace.
Now, if you’re not using your fireplace, remember to seal it to avoid the heat from going away (and the cold from coming inside). If possible, install an energy-efficient fireplace insert. This will keep the vintage look that we all love, but will prevent you from literally burning your money. Also, make sure that the wood that you’re burning is dry and that has been sustainably managed.
After you’ve pimped and greened your fireplace, it’s time for some hot chocolate and your family’s favorite board game.
