Thanksgiving: The Final Calorie Countdown
Nov 23rd, 2009 by Roxana
Staying fit during the holidays is maybe one of the biggest challenges that we face during the year. Halloween candies, Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas cookies or Hannukah doughnuts…you name it. All those yummy treats that just want to drive you away from the yellow path. Oh temptation. Us, humans, are too weak to fight it.
So we have to work with it. This means, find healthier alternatives and highlight the benefits that we can get from these treats as well. One of them is cranberry sauce: no saturated fats, rich in antioxidants, and free of cholesterol. The big no-no? Sugar. Cranberry sauce has 418 calories per serving.
The perfect solution is to keep the good part of the cranberry sauce without taking all those extra calories. Just replace the sugar with Agave Nectar, honey or Splenda. This will reduce those 418 calories into a very acceptable number: 26 calories per serving.
Since my dad has diabetes, I’m very familiar with the use of Splenda ( we love baking Splenda cheesecake) – now, don’t over do it. Artificial sweeteners have their cons as well, so don’t exceed the recommended doses. After all, moderation is the magic word when it comes to a healthy lifestyle.
MadeFit.tv has the written recipe in case you’d like to erase those 392 calories from your Thanksgiving dinner. Considering that we still have Christmas to go, it might come in handy!
