Straight Outta the Basement with HGTV
Sep 28th, 2009 by Ealeal
In my mind’s eye, basements are traditionally associated with those of us who – either by choice or by necessity – have retreated to live underground. Sadly enough, for many years, the only individuals I knew who either lived in such a basement or simply used one as their headquarters for social activity, were typically the paler members of the male populace, gaming geeks who due to peer pressure decided to restrict their RDnD sessions to the dark, moist cellars of their parents’ homes, and rarely saw the light of anything but a glaring computer screen. Preferably, running Linux.
Alternately, there were the fairly creepy basements I remember from growing up in very old homes in the Mid-West. Generally speaking, us kids were pretty much too terrified to venture down there, aside from the exceptional dare mission. But does that mean the very essence of a basement is to serve only zealous nerds and ghost-hunters? After having learned a thing or two from HGTV, I beg to differ.
Genevieve Gorder of HGTV’s hit show Dear Genevieve, is here to solve all of your basement woes, and help you whip all that dead space into a beautiful recreation room fit for sophisticated grownups.
